MUSIC MINISTRIES
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the
earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful
songs. Psalm 100:1-2 (NIV)

Music
plays an important role in worship at Knox Presbyterian
Church. From the youngest choir singing a cappella,
to the adult Chancel Choir singing with the incredible
Berghaus organ, we are led to a heightened sensitivity
to the presence of the Holy Spirit. We are called by
God to sing praises to Him!
Music Opportunities
Children and Youth choirs sing on a
rotating basis every four to six weeks, and sing a variety
of literature, from praise and worship songs to well-loved
hymns of faith. Music is chosen to be an integral part of
the worship service and is not performance based, but rather
an element of personal worship of God.
Caroler Choir,
or Carolers, are adorable pre-school (3 years old potty trained through 5 years old Pre-K) children who meet Tuesday mornings
from 9:15-10:30 a.m. for a Bible story, snack, craft and music.

Prime Time is
our choir of Kindergarten through 2nd grade children who meet
Wednesday afternoons.

Knox Knotes is
a choir consisting of 3rd through 5th graders who meet Wednesday
afternoons as part of the Mid-Week Program for Elementary School students.
Youth Choir -
Middle School youth choir meets in conjunction with the Wednesday
Mid-Week program. At this age level, we broaden the
music opportunities to include not just vocal participation,
but also choir chimes and hand bells. On occasion, those
students who study instrumental music in the schools or study
piano privately have an opportunity to play for the other
students in the Wednesday music program and/or the worship services.
Adult
participation in the music ministry
at Knox includes the Chancel Choir, which meets Thursday evenings
from 8-9:15 p.m. The choir usually sings for the 9 a.m. Sunday
service and is led by our Director of Music, Curt Parry.
The Chancel Choir sings a wide variety of published works,
from Handel to the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
Voices of Knox is an informal group that
comes together at select times of the year to serve the 10:30
a.m. service. This choir, consisting of high school,
college, and adults, uses guitars, bass guitars and percussion
instruments along with acoustic piano and pipe organ to praise
the Lord.
There
is also the opportunity every Sunday to sing in the Praise
Team for the 10:30 a.m. service. We blend traditional
hymns of the faith with more contemporary choruses with an
open invitation to anyone who enjoys
singing but cannot commit to a regular choir evening rehearsal.
The Praise
Team that uses contemporary music to support the pastoral
teachings of the day. This high-energy service uses
guitars, electronic keyboard, bass, and drums to accompany
praise and worship choruses, worship songs, and even traditional
hymns that probably sound a bit different without the pipe
organ! While this team is well established, we are looking
to build additional praise teams, so let us know if you play
and instrument or really love to sing contemporary Christian
songs!
Handbell Choirs
Knox has two handbell choirs. Jubilee
Bells practices on Wednesday mornings with child care provided,
while Knox Belles meets on Thursday evenings before the Chancel
Choir practice. Each group rings in church about once a month.
These choirs are under the direction of Bernadyne Cox, and have
five full octaves and three octaves of choir chimes.
Knox also encourages the individual musician to perform for special
events, services, and for summer music when the regular choirs do
not meet. This opportunity is open to vocalists and instrumentalists
of all ages. We welcome your joyful participation!
"No storm
can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since love is Lord of heav'n and earth,
how can I keep from
singing?" |
Robert Lowry, 1869
